Woman of Color, of Strength, Lead us….
As Latina women, we are not given much of a safe place in our community to speak the truth….tell our stories…share our pain, our struggles, so that the next generation will not repeat it.
We are told to put our heads down or turn away, to be stronger…
Yet we are raised by strong women: grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, girlfriends, etc.
We are taught that our value as a woman is by default to be a wife and caretaker… which is a beautiful thing.
However, not all follow this path…be it by choice or circumstances.
To be a woman is not to be labeled, to be set by boundaries, to be held by standards, it’s to live and love the body and person who you were created to be.
As women, we are to live in a way that builds us and our communities, our younger generation, to be a positive role model. To share our stories, to guide them, protect them. To live in faith and love.
~ “No! I won’t be defined by your statistics.
Labeled by a standard, but by who?
Woman, Stand up! Speak up!
Woman of color, of strength….
Lead us…” ~ S 2020
